Course description | This course examines socio-legal and anthropological perspectives on aspects of legal process. The first half of the course focuses primarily on the UK and the second half of the course on developing countries, particularly in Africa. Topics will include: the legal profession, legal aid and the provision of services, problems of law and dispute, courts, tribunals, administrative procedures, informal dispute processing, legal pluralism, informal justice, law in the colonial context, the role of race and gender in the legal process, and the nature of socio-legal studies and social anthropology. |
