Course description | The aim of this course is to give an introduction to current research on developmental syntax. The course reviews key issues, concepts and findings in the development of syntactic competence in first and second language acquisition from the perspective of generative syntax. The course also introduces aspects of syntactic theory necessary to understand the relevant literature in syntactic acquisition. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
After successful completion of this course students should be able to understand current issues in the research on syntactic development, including:
- the nature of syntactic representations and categories in L1 and L2 grammars
- the nature of syntactic operations in L1 and L2 grammars
- interface effects in monolingual L1, bilingual L1 and L2 grammars
Students should also be able to analyse learner data using the concepts and models introduced in the course. |
