Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
English Language 1 has 3 broad aims:

2. An introduction to the fundamental analytic concepts involved in the study of linguistic structure of English today and its broad historical development.
3. The course will give students the technical means of engaging in the analysis and explication of English as a language, not only accounting for its most 'standard' and 'constant' features, but also establishing the exensive social and geographical variety of the language, both today and in earlier times. |
Assessment Information
Four items of assessment: one assignment in semester 1 and an exam at the end of semester 1, and one essay and one assignment in semester 2. All assessment components will be weighted equally at 25%.
For candidates taking the resit exam, the final mark will be either the average of the coursework mark (which is the average of all four items of assessment completed during the course) and the resit exam mark, or 100% of the resit exam mark, whichever is greater. |
