Course description | This course will provide students with an understanding of infectious disease in a global policy context and with an awareness of the theory and practice of their control and prevention. It examines the theory underlying infectious disease control, including the agents and their transmission routes, infectivity, host susceptibility, transmission dynamics, incidence, and prevalence. It will examine the epidemiology of infectious diseases and their global disease burden, and assess major contemporary strategies for the control of these diseases. The course will examine key principles in infectious disease control including outbreak management and surveillance methods. It will assess both the principles underlying vaccination and immunisation and the methods for monitoring and evaluating immunisation programmes. The course will enable students to develop strategies for the control of infectious disease, and to plan and evaluate infectious disease control programmes. |
