Course description | The aim of this course is to take an interdisciplinary approach in order to chart the development of transnational Muslim cultures in the world today. Following recent trends in diaspora studies, the course explores issues beyond the boundaries of the nation-state, in terms that redefine the relationship of European, Southeast Asian, and Middle Eastern cultures with their 'Others'. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
The course aims to ground students in a theoretical understanding of the current literature on the subject. The relevant issues will be contextualised through ethnographies, covering themes such as transnational identity, religious practices, and diasporic media production. The course will encourage students to examine concepts such as 'diaspora', 'identity', 'intersticiality', and 'hybridity' from a critical perspective. |
