| Course description | This course is an introduction to the political, economic, social and cultural history of the Middle East from 1800-present. The first semester, covers the precolonial Ottoman empire, colonial rule and the rise of nationalism until national independence after the Second World War. The second semester, covers subsequent challenges and transformations from nationalism, statism and socialism to neoliberal globalization. |
