Course description | This course considers questions of local, regional and national identity in relation to contemporary theory and practice in architecture and public art. The course is international in scope, referring to work in England, Spain and the Americas, but Edinburgh, and its new parliament are constant points of reference. Visits to the parliament and other Edinburgh sites are integral to the course. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Through the questions of identity, students will gain a thorough understanding of contemporary architectural discourse. Visits to buildings and public artworks will help students explore the sources of that discourse as well as its limits. Students will gain experience of analysing 3D space, and urban space in general. Access to the Percy Johnson-Marshall collection will provide archival research skills. |
Assessment Information
Principal means of assessment is a 4,000 word essay. In addition each candidate's performance will be monitored through the presentation of seminar material. |
