| Course description | This course is intended to enable those who have taken Greek 1Ha and 1Hb to advance their knowledge of the language, and also so that those who have taken Greek 1a and 1b in their second year are not prevented from studying the language at Honours level. The course will include reading and language classes and linguistically based tutorials on subjects including prose composition; students will have further tutorials relating to the subjects of their terminal essays. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of the course, students should be able to demonstrate in tutorial discussion and exercises, in an Honours-level essay and in a written examination that they have:
! Read and understood the set texts of the semester;
! Possess a sound knowledge and understanding of these texts in their literary (and historical and intellectual) context; and of the scholarly literature dealing with them;
! Have developed an adequate acquaintance with Greek grammar and vocabulary to read and translate passages of moderate difficulty without a dictionary, or to translate simple English passages into Greek.
They should also have developed their skills in:
! Reading independently;
! Identifying and assessing relevant secondary literature.

Assessment Information
| One 3000-word essay at Honours Level on one of the set texts (30%); Continuous Assessment of tutorial work (20%); One 2-hour degree exam paper (50%). |
Special Arrangements
| Students taking this class for honours credit will be required to produce an essay which conforms to Honours class standards, in length, quality and bibliography. |
