Course description | This course examines critical approaches to Third World development studies. We will trace the various theoretical underpinnings of development studies and how they have changed over the past 20-30 years. Emphasis is placed on understanding how capitalism and neo-colonialism has shaped the kinds of development projects that have emerged. Examples will be drawn from all over the world with a particular emphasis on South Asia. The course will conclude by examining neo-liberalism and the impact this has had on development over the past 10-15 years. |
