| Course description | This course will attempt to complicate and interrogate the notion of 'minority' as it has been used historically in the United States with its implications of marginalisation and isolation from the mainstream. Mexican, Caribbean and Native American are among the cultural diasporas that are recuperated and included in this amplified American cultural territory as is the experience of displacement itself. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
| This course is intended to introduce students to the concept of 'New World Literatures'. It will enable them to answer the question: What does it mean to be an "American" in the late Twentieth century? These multiple cultural perspectives are inseparable from concepts of culture, class and history. |
