| Course description | Course description:
This course aims to promote an appreciation of the importance of communication in the control of disease. This will include issues of health promotion and the media portrayal of disease, using examples from situations in both the developing and developed world.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this course the candidate should understand:
* The role of health promotion in disease control
* Understanding the uses of different types of media for communication
* The impact of the media on public attitudes to disease
* The role of globalisation and the internet on access to information and its impact on disease control

Assessment Information
| Formal summative written assessment will constitute 60% of the student's grade. Online assessment will incorporate a variety of activities will constitute 40% of their overall course grade and is taken to represent a formative assessment of learning throughout the programme. |
