Course description | This is the introductory course for the programme and as such addresses the key principles underpinning the programme and the Standard for Headship. These include
a) The reflective practitioner and the importance of structured self evaluation
b) The importance of sound evaluation strategies to inform practice at both individual and whole school levels
c) The key role of headship in school development and improvement
d) Awareness of current national issues and debates in education |

a) A reference from their headteacher.
b) Local Authority funding.
c) A successful outcome from a Local Authority application and interview process.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Students will understand:
a) The holistic nature of the Standard for Headship and what is required to demonstrate competence
b) The key purpose of headship and what it entails in relation to leadership for learning
c) The key principles of evidence based self evaluation in relation to the Standard for Headship
d) The process of critical self reflection
Students will be able to:
a) Undertake a comprehensive self evaluation against all parts of The Standard for Headship
b) Identify, in a personal learning programme, key areas of required professional development in order to meet the Standard for Headship during the Programme
c) Analyse, Identify, and justify their own educational beliefs and values
d) Demonstrate awareness of the key national and international issues in education and how they currently impact on their own context and practice

Assessment Information
Students must meet all assessment criteria for each course. All assignments must be related to leadership and management at a whole school level and demonstrate impact on staff practice and pupils' experience and achievement.

- A Rationale and Personal Learning Programme. Min. 600 words |
