Course description | To put the young person at the centre of the Physical Education & Youth Sport experience, practitioners and researchers must have a detailed knowledge and understanding of young people and the factors influencing their movement and physical activity development. This module will explore young people's development from an interrelated perspective, focussing on those individual and environmental factors that influence their movement development and their involvement in Physical Education & Sport. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
On the completion of this module students are required to demonstrate that they are able to
1. Critically analyse young people's Physical Education and Sport involvement from a developmental and interrelated perspective;
2. Evaluate the underlying reasons for the changes in observable movement that take place throughout the childhood and adolescent years;
3. Examine the contribution anthropometric and physiological changes make to young people's movement development;
4. Critically examine the role of cognitive and affective development on young people's Physical Education and sport behaviour;
5. Critically appraise the socio-cultural factors influencing young people's participation in Physical Education and Youth Sport.
6. Evaluate present Physical Education and Youth Sport programmes from a developmental and interrelated perspective |
Assessment Information
Each student will produce an assignment of 4000 words. The assignment will be chosen from topics that focus on one of the developmental age phases highlighted in the module.
Students will critically evaluate PE & Youth Sport programmes from a developmental perspective and consider what measures need to be in place to ensure all young people's physical experiences are consistently developmentally appropriate. |
