| Course description | This course will introduce the notion of environmental justice covering the environmental justice movements in the USA and UK and the environmentalism of the poor. It will analyse the reasons for the unequal distribution of environmental costs, benefits and resources in social, global and intergenerational terms, and introduce the idea of political ecology as a theoretical tool for studying associated social conflict. It will critically evaluate adult education and lifelong learning responses to environmentalism, community sustainable development and environmental justice. It will assess, with the use of examples, the curriculum, social purpose and political opportunity afforded by informal and formal adult education in environmental justice movements. |
