Course description | The course considers the economic and social history of Britain's American colonies in the context of the rise of the North Atlantic economy. A regional approach indicates the diversity of experience within Britain's first empire. Attention focuses on problems of settlement, different strategies for development, and the importance of the regional staple in affecting the pattern of growth within the North Atlantic economy.
