Course description | The course aims to equip the trainee to have the theoretical and practical skills to work competently and professionally in the learning disability specialty. Teaching is guided by the concepts of normalisation, the five accomplishments and social inclusion and aims to provide a grounding whereby the trainee can perceive their role within a broad social and political context.
The teaching aims to deliver a detailed grounding in relevant client, clinical work, service, legislation and professional areas.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
The trainee will demonstrate:
1. A critical, detailed and reflective understanding of the main theories, principles and concepts relating to the learning disability specialty, including assessment, formulation, treatment and evaluation.
2. The ability to apply the concepts, theories and principles of the learning disability specialism in an integrated, critical, ethical and professional way in clinical practice.
3. The ability to apply the knowledge and skills learned to develop creative and original responses to clinical problems and issues
4 The ability to analyse, synthesise and evaluate the taught material and apply it to dealing with complex and novel situations and issues in an informed and reflective way. |
