| Course description | The course addresses a number of questions in translation theories that may also be of interest to students of literature and literary criticism. Among these are the issues of translation, authorship, and the canon; translation and orality; and themes arising from the relationship of translation to specific issues in culture (translator's invisibility; foreignisation and domestication; minority, patronage, ideology; translation and post-colonialism; translation and gender; translation and the asymmetrical power relations between languages and cultures). |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
As an option coures, it will allow students to pursue knowledge and understanding in particular areas of their own interest. It will raise awareness of the diversity of issues surrounding translation, and will enhance the students' capacity to synthesise theoretical, critical and textual skills with reflective insight.

Assessment Information
| Assessed by a 4,000 word essay due at the end of the semester. The students will give an oral presentation of their essays towards the end of the semester before submission. |
