Course description | This course introduces students to a number of different theories of literature and approaches to literary study, which have emerged in the 19th and 20th centuries. The approaches studied in this course include Structuralism, Post-Structuralism, Postcolonialism, and Cultural Studies. Authors whose theoretical writings will be studied include Roland Barthes, Michel Foucault, Jacques Derrida and Edward Said. Each seminar will concentrate on the discussion of a reasonably short text by the theorist in question. |
