Course description | This course aims to introduce students to Second Temple Judaism by the study of important facets of the Jewish religion from its post-exilic origins (515 BCE) to the beginning of the rabbinic period (200 CE). Alongside an historical study of the period will be religious topics and themes (eg Temple, the Dead Sea Scrolls, messianism, Pharisees) that are particularly important for students of Biblical Studies. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course, students should have:
1) a broad knowledge of Jewish history from the Babylonian Exile to the beginning of the Rabbinic period;
2) read and be able to discuss selected passages from classical sources that attest to various forms of Jewish discourse;
3) a good grasp of all the lecture and seminar topics.
