Course description | A treatment of the physiology, structure, development and reproduction of higher plants and fungi. How plants perceive environmental cues. Aspects of plant biochemistry, cell-cell signalling, sexual reproduction and biotechnology that are relevant to the improvement of crop plants. Exploitation of plant biomass. Mutualistic and parasitic plant-microbe interaction, including disease and its resistance, nitrogen fixation, mycorrhizae and lichens. Students considering further plant science courses are invited to attend a 1-week field course at the end of the summer term. |
