Course description | This topic will provide an overview of how signal transduction protein complexes transmit information via cell surface receptors, into the cytosol and into the nucleus. This will focus on the principal mechanisms of regulation between signalling molecules and on how they have evolved to allow the efficient transmission of messages via phosphorylation of proteins. The topic will focus on intracellular signalling through distinct classes of specific interaction domains in receptors, protein kinases and phosphatases which leads to the formation of signaling protein complexes. Some emphasis will be on the techniques by which novel signal transduction pathways are elucidated. This part will largely involve data interpretation by the participants. Assessment will be by short talk ("journal club" style) and a poster presentation describing a relevant paper that you will be assigned. |
