Final Assessment
One unit of assessment is allocated to every 20 credits and constitutes one 20-credit paper. The following are the twelve 20-credit papers on which the classification of the degree is based. (Papers that for the purposes of degree classification acquire a weighting of 40 credits are, therefore, listed twice.)

4. Portuguese Language Paper 1

7. EUS Dissertation Preparation (same mark as 8)

9. Honours option course in Hispanic Studies

* No previous knowledge of Portuguese is necessary: a pass in a modern foreign language or a classical language at SCE Higher grade or equivalent evidence of linguistic proficiency is normally required.
† Students are required to attend approved courses in European Studies at an institution of higher learning in Spain and Portugal and to begin to prepare a dissertation upon an approved topic in European Studies (between 6,000 and 8,000 words).
** a pass in at least one modern foreign or classical language on the Higher Grade (SCE) or evidence of linguistic proficiency.
‡ Spanish Higher Grade (SCE) or equivalent. Entrants with SCE qualifications should hold at least a "B" pass.
‡ Entry into Honours normally requires (i) passes in all six subjects taken in the first two years, and (ii) a mark of 50% or above in the second year of the relevant Modern European Language.
