Final Assessment
One unit of assessment is allocated to every 20 credits and constitutes one 20-credit paper. The following are the twelve 20-credit papers on which the classification of the degree is based. (Papers that for the purposes of degree classification acquire a weighting of 40 credits are, therefore, listed twice.)
1. Spanish 4 Honours Language Paper 1
2. Spanish 4 Honours Language Paper 1
3. Portuguese 4 Honours Language Paper 1
4. Portuguese 4 Honours Language Paper 1
5. Spanish Oral
6. Portuguese Oral
7. Dissertation Preparation (same mark as 8) or SOCRATES marks
8. Dissertation Completion or Long Essay
9. 4 Honours option course in Hispanic Studies
10. 4 Honours option course in Hispanic Studies
11. 4 Honours option course in Hispanic Studies
12. 4 Honours option course in Hispanic Studies
* No previous knowledge of Portuguese is necessary: a pass in a modern foreign language or a classical language at SCE Higher grade or equivalent evidence of linguistic proficiency is normally required.
** Must be the second level of one of the courses taken in first year.
† Students who spend 30 weeks of residence in one country as an assistant or at an approved institution will also need to fulfil the eight weeks minimum residence required for the other language: this will normally be done in the summer vacation preceding the fourth year, in a manner approved by the Head of School.
‡ Entry into Honours normally requires (i) passes in all six subjects taken in the first two years, and (ii) a mark of 50% or above in the second year of the relevant Modern European Language.
