Final Assessment
One unit of assessment is allocated to every 20 credits and constitutes one 20-credit paper. The following are the twelve 20-credit papers on which the classification of the degree is based. (Papers that for the purposes of degree classification acquire a weighting of 40 credits are, therefore, listed twice.)
1. MEL Language Paper 1
2. MEL Language Paper 1
3. MEL Language Paper 2
4. MEL Oral
5. Either Year abroad marks for LEL or 3rd year project in Language Sciences
6. Either Year abroad marks for LEL or 3rd year project in Language Sciences
7. MEL Dissertation Preparation (same mark as 8) or SOCRATES marks
8. MEL Dissertation Completion or Long Essay
9. MEL option

* No previous knowledge of Portuguese is necessary: a pass in a modern foreign language or a classical language at SCE Higher grade or equivalent evidence of linguistic proficiency is normally required.
† Entry to Honours normally requires a pass at 50% or above in the second year of the relevant Modern European Language and, at the first attempt, in either English Language 2 or a pass, at the first attempt, in Linguistics 2A and Linguistics 2B, with an average mark across the Linguistics courses of 50% or above.
