Final Assessment
One unit of assessment is allocated to every 20 credits and constitutes one 20-credit paper. The following are the twelve 20-credit papers on which the classification of the degree is based. (Papers that for the purposes of degree classification acquire a weighting of 40 credits are, therefore, listed twice.)
1. MEL Language Paper 1
2. MEL Language Paper 1
3. MEL Language Paper 2
4. MEL Oral
5. Long Essay for English or Scottish Literature
6. Long Essay for English or Scottish Literature
7. MEL Dissertation Preparation (same mark as 8) or SOCRATES marks
8. MEL Dissertation Completion or Long Essay
9. MEL option
10. English / Scottish Literature core or option Course
11. English / Scottish Literature core or option Course
12. A Critical Practice: Poetry (10 credits)

B Critical Practice: Performance (10 credits)

* No previous knowledge of Portuguese is necessary: a pass in a modern foreign language or a classical language at SCE Higher grade or equivalent evidence of linguistic proficiency is normally required
†Entry into Honours normally requires (i) passes in all six subjects taken in the first two years, and (ii) a mark of 50% or above in the second year of the relevant Modern European Language.
# Entry to year 3 normally requires a pass at 50% or above at the first attempt in English Literature 2 or Scottish Literature 2,or American Literature 2.
