Year Abroad Work for Degrees in Languages and History (U04642)? Credit Points : 40 ? SCQF Level : 10 ? Acronym : HCA-3-YAWHIST During their third year abroad while studying for these combined degrees, students carry out guided reading under the supervision of a member of the School of History, Classics and Archaeology and write an essay on a historical theme which makes use of the language that they are studying. The essays are handed in on the student's return at the beginning of Year 4. Entry Requirements? This course is not available to visting students. ? Pre-requisites : Entry into honours of degree in Languages and History. By the end of the course, students should be able to:
-identify a research topic -construct a bibliography of secondary works on the chosen topic -demonstrate independent research skills -show the ability to work independently towards a set deadline and word limit -review a large body of literature and produce coherent analytical text. The essay is the sole component of assessment. Assessment is carried over to the fourth year in line with the standard practice for modern language degree programmes.
