Emerging and Neglected Infectious Diseases (U04541)? Credit Points : 10 ? SCQF Level : 10 ? Acronym : BMS-4-ID_Para This course will describe the natural history and transmission dynamics of protozoan and metazoan parasites, including arthropods. Factors effecting the establishment of infection and development of protective immunity will be considered in relation to development of disease. Method for diagnosis and control of infections will be discussed. Specific infections to be covered include: malaria, sleeping sickness, Chagas' disease; leishmaniasis; toxoplasmosis; schistosomiasis, lymphatic filariasis; river blindness; hydatid disease; and, hookworms.
