Curriculum and Pedagogy 3a: Languages and Religious and Moral and Philosophical Studies (U04466)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 10 ? Acronym : EDU-3-C&P3a The course has been designed to extend student's awareness and understanding of key areas of the Primary School curriculum, notably Language and literacy and Religious, Moral and Philosophical Studies within the broader context of the BEd (Honours) Primary Programme. In addition to Language and RMPS being acknowledged as, and taught mainly as, discrete strands on the course, advantage is taken throughout of opportunities to demonstrate to students how these areas of leraning can effectively complement each other. The course builds on aspects of Language and literacy covered in Curriculum and Pedagogy 1a and 2a and on aspects of RMPS covered in Curriculum and Pedagogy 2c. Entry Requirements? By the end of the course, students will be able to:
-Demonstrate awareness of the cognitive, personal, social and cultural aspects of children's literacy development -Demonstrate skills in diagnostic assessment and the use of assessment evidence to support pupils' learning in literacy -Use background reading of recent literature from a variety of sources and knowledge of course content to inform thinking about literacy and RMP teaching. -Demonstrate reflective thinking about their knowledge, skills and attitudes in relation to literacy and RMPS teaching. -Demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of key concepts in 'Religion' and 'Philosophy'. -Demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of Christianity and three other World Religions as a Personal Search for value, meaning and purpose in life. -Show a knowledge and understanding of recent developments within the subject area with specific reference to the Curriculum for Excellence. -Plan and teach stimulating, relevant and challenging programmes of work in Religious and Philosophical Studies for use in Primary School with particular reference to Personal Search, Cross Curricular Issues and Differentiation. Students will be asked to plan a sequence of 3 lessons on a chosen theme which demonstrates an integrated approach to Literacy and RMPS with a theoretical justification for the approach taken and making strong connections between theory, policy and practice (3000 words)
