Placement 1 (U04440)

? Credit Points : 20  ? SCQF Level : 8  ? Acronym : EDU-1-Placement

Placement 1 consists of where possible serial days or enquiry weeks in semesters 1 and 2 and a block placement following the Easter break. Students, unless circumstances prevent it, will be placed in pairs. These pairings will facilitate collaborative learning through providing opportunities to share developing understandings, provide feedback and generally support each other. Where pairings prove impossible alternative strategies to facilitate peer learning will be used.

The serial days or enquiry week in semester one are with upper stages and those in semester two with lower stages. Two of the serial days in semester two will be given over to a community study. The purpose of the serial days is to encourage students to take a broad perspective on schools and their social context. As well as taking their first steps as practising teachers, they have opportunities to learn about school life in general, different ages/classes and the local community. The block placement focuses on the nursery stage.
