Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Knowledge and Understanding
- demonstrate knowledge and understanding of theories of child development and childhood 7-9 years - demonstrate knowledge of the first and second levels of a Curriculum for Excellence in all curriculum areas - demonstrate knowledge and understanding of social inclusion policies - demonstrate understanding of models of interdisciplinary learning Practice Applied Knowledge and Understanding - demonstrate an ability to synthesise understanding of policy, practice and research in academic, educational writing Generic Cognitive Skills - critically identify, define, conceptualise and analyse complex professional level problems and issues (critical incident analysis) - critically review and consolidate knowledge, skills and thinking in curriculum planning & teaching, assessing and evaluating learning in Expressive Arts, Science or Social Subjects (CTA essay) Communication, ICT and Numeracy Skills - interpret, use and evaluate a wide range of numerical and graphical data (international assessment surveys) - develop skills in educational academic writing - demonstrate skills in individual presentations - Use a range of software to support and enhance work at this level (ASL?) Students experience formative and summative assessment. In the summative assignment (3,000 words) students reflect on literature studied on curriculum theory and architecture. They explain their developing understanding of relationships between curriculum, teaching and assessment. These understandings are exemplified through reflection on teaching plans they made on the Middle Primary Placement. Students choose one plan they devised for a component of Expressive Arts (from Art and Design, Music, Drama, dance and one other plan they devised for a curriculum area from the following selection (Sciences, Social Subjects, Technologies, RMPS, Health and Well Being).
