Chemical Engineering Unit Operations 3 (U04236)? Credit Points : 10 ? SCQF Level : 9 ? Acronym : EEL-3-CHCEUO Unit Operations extends earlier treatment of stagewise equilibrium processes to numerical solutions for absorption and stripping in multicomponent systems, graphical solutions for binary distillation in the case of non-constant molal overflow and the analogous case of solvent extraction. Multicomponent equilibria and both short-cut and extended solutions for multicomponent flash and distillation are also treated. In addition, there is an introduction to mass transfer operations in packed columns. Entry Requirements? Pre-requisites : Separation Processes and Process Calculations 2 Subject AreasHome subject areaChemical, (School of Engineering and Electronics, Schedule M) Delivery Information? Normal year taken : 3rd year ? Delivery Period : Semester 1 (Blocks 1-2) ? Contact Teaching Time : 4 hour(s) per week for 11 weeks First Class Information
All of the following classes
Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
- determine graphically or analytically the number of stages in an absorption or stripping column;
- analyse critically the choice of stage vs. packed column; - size an absorption or stripping packed column for dilute and non-dilute gas systems; - design a multicomponent distillation column using group methods and stage-by-stage (rigorous) methods. Assessment Information
1.5 hour degree examinations in December
