The rationalists: Spinoza and Leibniz (U04115)

An in-depth, critical study of the rationalist systems of philosophy developed by two major philosophers of the early modern period, Spinoza and Leibniz. Similarities and contrasts among their views will be explored and explained and their respective systems of philosophy subjected to critical analysis.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

To develop further the philosophical skills, and to extend and deepen the philosophical knowledge, acquired in previous philosophy courses.

Assessment Information

One mid-semester essay of c.2,000 words (30%) and a final closed-book examination (70%)
