Sanskrit Special Subject (U04081)

Students will be introduced to the study of advanced Sanskrit texts in the areas of classical South Asian philosophy and religion. The texts will be chosen from a Hindu, Buddhist or Jain background and will involve themes such as karma and the arguments for a creator god. The course will involve both the translation and analysis of the texts selected for study and investigation of the various scholarly issues relating to them.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

To enable the student to analyse critically primary and secondary sources relating to an aspect of Indian civilastion and develop appropriate writing skills in this context.
