Sanskrit 3 Language 2 (U04076)

Students will be introduced to advanced Sanskrit texts in specific intellectual or literary genres such as dharmasastra, kavya, poetics and drama. The course will involve both the translation and analysis of the texts selected for study and investigation of the various scholarly issues relating to them. Students will also be given instruction in the reading of commentarial Sanskrit.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this course students will be able to master a variety of styles of Sanskrit prose and poetry and to interpret a range of texts from a critical perspective

Assessment Information

2 x 2,500 word essays worth 15% each; 2 x 3-hour examinations worth 70% of the final mark.
