General and Academic English for International Students (U03887)? Credit Points : 60 ? SCQF Level : 7 ? Acronym : PPL-1-GAEIS This course helps international students with 5.5 IELTS to improve their knowledge and use of English in both general and academic contexts. The morning General English component (9.15-10.45 daily) provides structured progression through a syllabus of grammar and vocabulary building with reading skills. The afternoon Academic English component (14.00-15.50 on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday) includes: study management, basic research skills, listening and note-taking, discussion skills and writing. ? Pre-requisites : Overall 5.5 IELTS with a minimum of 5.0 in each section (or TOEFL equivalents). ? Costs : Set textbook for afternoon classes: "Study Skills in English" by MJ Wallace - approximately £15.00. There is no need to buy the accompanying CD. ? Additional Class Information : Class sessions begin on 22 September and end in week 11. The morning sessions (7.5 hours per week) are part of the IALS General English programme. The three afternoons (6 hours per week) focus on Academic English study skills. Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
