Latin Language (Ah1) (U03567)? Credit Points : 10 ? SCQF Level : 10 ? Acronym : HCA-3-LLANGAH1 The course aims to develop advanced language skills through regular unseen translation from Latin into English and through study of one of the following topics: Latin metre; Latin textual criticism; Latin prose; Roman rhetoric. Entry Requirements? Pre-requisites : A pass in Latin 2A and Latin 2B, with an average of 50% or above in the two courses combined. ? Prohibited combinations : Cannot be taken with U01142 Latin Language (A). ?
Special Arrangements for Entry : This course is only open to students who will be absent from Edinburgh in Semester 2. In order for a student to be enrolled, contact must be made with a Course Secretary on 50 3580 for approval to be obtained. ? Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of the course, students should be able to demonstrate in the written degree examination:
that they can translate into good English a range of unseen Latin texts, both prose and verse, with a high degree of fluency and accuracy; that they have achieved competence in a range of skills-based topics in Latin language. In addition, they will have improved their linguistic abilities in general, their analytical skills, and their literary appreciation. Assessment Information
