Agent Based Systems (U02497)? Credit Points : 10 ? SCQF Level : 9 ? Acronym : INF-3-ABS The aim of this course is to provide a comprehensive introduction to agents and multiagent systems. It covers a broad range of distributed artificial intelligence topics including agent architectures, agent interaction and communication, and applications of agent-based systems. It lays the foundations for advanced courses such as Multi-Agent Semantic Web Systems. Entry Requirements? Pre-requisites : Informatics 2D Introduction to Java Programming Successful completion of Year 2 of an Informatics Single or Combined Degree, or equivalent by permission of the School. Students must also have a basic knowledge of probability theory and a good command of propositional and first-order logic. Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
After completion of the course, students will:
* have gained an understanding of the "agent" perspective on computational systems, * be able to analyse and model distributed systems in terms of openness, decentralisation and autonomy, * be capable of designing and implementing intelligent agents using different architectures, * have developped a sense for the importance of integrating different AI techniques when constructing intelligent agents, * know how to make agents work together (or against each other) through an appropriate use of interaction mechanisms, and * be able to apply this knowledge to design distributed intelligent systems to meet the demands of modern, distributed computing environments.
