The course covers interpersonal communications, basic processes of teaching and learning in small groups, and investigating issues in communities as a means of developing curriculum.

? Additional Class Information : There will be 1 hour of guided study following the class sessions. The classes will be held in Paterson's Land PLG21 at Moray House School of Education.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

- Account for and demonstrate the basic tenets of effective communication
- Explain basic approaches to working with people in groups
- Illustrate a range of methods for investigating needs and issues in communities
- State how investigations provide the basis for an informal educational curriculum.

Assessment Information

Students will work in small groups of three to four to prepare a 15 minute presentation in which they are to demonstrate their understanding of basic processes of working with people in groups (groups will receive immediate, formative feedback on the delivery aspects). The presentations will take place during the final two class sessions. Each group will submit a document (up to 2500 words) containing their work for the presentation (including, for example copies of overheads or powerpoint slides, background research and notes) with all theoretical ideas and sources appropriately referenced.
