Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

This course seeks to:

• provide an understanding of the managerial and budget-setting context of the public sector, mainly in Britain, with reference to techniques and approaches also applicable to the private sector.

• use the developing international literature on public sector management with an emphasis on the UK and Scotland in the practical examples studied.

• consider the culture and political context of public sector management reform and review innovations that aim to improve efficiency and accountability and service to the public.
