Professional and Personal Development (B) (P03182)

Either PPD or PPD(B) is the core course for the MSc in Advancing Nursing Practice. Nursing and healthcare professionals are encouraged to be life long learners and to develop as reflective practitioners. The course provides the necessary skills and theoretical knowledge for students to develop into life long learners and enhance their practice This course enables students to realise their full potential by building on their strengths within their own professional practice

The course involves both practical and academic skills. Students are encouraged to engage with current IT used within education. The students will be introduced to a critical evaluation of current concepts used within nurse education today, examples are personal development and reflective practice.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

- Develop the ability to utilise an eportfolio
- Develop competency of IT skills
- Develop personal and professional planning skills
- To demonstrate the ability to set learning objectives and evaluate learning criteria in a critical , analytical and creative way
- Demonstrate the ability to engage in reflective practice
- Demonstrate a systematic understanding of knowledge and critical awareness of current issues and elements within professional and personal development planning within nursing

Assessment Information

A written critical exploration of a subject of their choice related to professional and personal development with application to nursing/health care. Subject to the approval of the course organiser.
e.g The use of eportfolios in post graduate nursing
4000 to 5000 words

Assessments will be marked according to School/College policy and made available for moderation by the External Examiner.
