Web Programming (P03112)? Credit Points : 10 ? SCQF Level : 11 ? Acronym : PHY-P-WPR This course will provide students with the basic conceptual understanding and practical skills needed to develop web-based applications for the analysis and presentation of data. This requires not only a knowledge of the software tool-sets available to aid construction of such applications but also a basic grounding in aspects of managing accessibility for web-based applications, such as authentication and authorisation considerations, performance issues, reliability, reproducibility and maintenance of state between sessions. A basic knowledge of Java will be required for some of the material in this course. Entry Requirements? This course is not available to visting students. Subject AreasHome subject areaPostgraduate (School of Physics and Astronomy), (School of Physics and Astronomy, Schedule Q) Delivery Information? Normal year taken : Postgraduate ? Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student should be able to:
1. Demonstrate an understanding of the basic internet protocols which underpin distributed computing and of how these protocols are used to present information on the web. 2. Show an appreciation of how generic issues relating to distributed resources (such as latency, reliability, etc) affect web-based applications based upon them. 3. Demonstrate an understanding of the concepts of state and statelessness and how these relate to the design and operation of web-based applications. 4. Develop and deploy dynamic web-based applications. Assessment Information
