Ethics and Corporate Governance (P03052)

The course is designed to explore issues surrounding corporate governance and ethics within the UK and international environment. Different relationships between management, organisations and society will be reviewed, to further understanding of different business practices across the world.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

Subject Specific Skills: On completing the module, students should be able to:
? Define and distinguish the main characteristics of corporate governance ;
? Explain the importance of good corporate governance;
? Establish and analyse a relationship between corporate governance and corporate social responsibility;
? Explain the different ways in which people or organisations may respond to ethical issues;
? Apply different ethical theories for businesses, organisations and management to ethical issues and describe the consequences of these theories.

Core Academic Skills: This module will develop in students the ability to:
? Critically appraise different types of corporate governance models and mechanisms.
? View corporate governance and ethical issues from both a practical and academic perspective.
? Appraise constructively many of the practices and outcomes of corporate governance and business ethics in organisations across the world.

Personal and Key Skills: This module will develop in students the ability to
? Plan and manage their own study.
? Make appropriate use of learning resources in particular the corporate governance and business ethics literature.
? Develop skills in the critical appraisal of research and practice.

Assessment Information

There is one assignment which counts for 30% of the total mark.

There is a final two hour exam which counts for 70% of the total mark. This will be in open-book form.
