Leadership across different health care contexts: achieving your potential (P02953)

The course will focus on the introduction of change and leadership in a variety of health care settings. It will lead on to the successful implementation of a patient-focused, needs-led and practical innovation to achieve service improvement. The techniques and tools required and available will be examined for their effectiveness. Through a case study, the student will critically analyse and evaluate the working/placement environment.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

 Apply a critical understanding of a range of principal theories, principles and concepts
 Demonstrate an extensive, detailed and critical knowledge and understanding of the main theoretical perspectives that inform developments at the forefront of current thinking on leadership
 Apply critical analysis, evaluation and synthesis to issues which are at the forefront or are informed by developments at the forefront of knowledge and practice
 Identify, conceptualise and define new and abstract problems and issues
 Critically review, consolidate and extend knowledge, skills and practices and thinking in leadership
 Deal with complex issues and make informed judgements relating to leadership and teamwork
 Demonstrate a critical evaluation of recent research
 Demonstrate critical reflection on your own roles, knowledge acquisition, emotional intelligence, self-awareness and personal development in leadership to include skills such as team building, networking, conflict management
 Deal with complex ethical and professional issues and make informed judgements on issues of equity and justice.
 Demonstrate policy awareness

Assessment Information

Course paper 4,000-5,000 words
Assessments will be marked according to School/College policy and made available for moderation by the External Examiner.
