Comparative Perspectives in Nationalism Studies (P02935)

? Credit Points : 20  ? SCQF Level : 11  ? Acronym : SPS-P-P02935

The focus in this course is on how nationalism is studied. The first part involves lectures and discussions on methodological approaches to studying nationalism, such as case studies, comparative frameworks, and typologies. Thereafter substantive areas are explored through guest lectures by staff whose work engages with questions of nationalism (e.g. in Scotland, east central Europe, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Israel/Palestine, and Sri Lanka). Students will further explore the issues involved in conceptualising cases through group presentations on substantive topics of their choice.
