The student will conduct a piece of original research over the summer block of approximately 10,000-15,000 words on a subject of their choice within the accounting and finance field. The dissertation will take approximately 3 months to complete (1st June – 30th August). It normally consists of a literature review survey in an applied/empirical area of accounting and finance followed by a piece of empirical work involving either qualitative research methods or statistical methods. Examples of the aims of the dissertation are: to give the student the opportunity to practise and gain confidence in the use of skills which s/he has acquired in the preceding courses; to provide an opportunity to study a particular topic in depth.

• structure and logically construct a report on a piece of research.
