Freedom of Information and Records Management (P02841)? Credit Points : 10 ? SCQF Level : 11 ? Acronym : MED-P-P02841 To introduce the theoretical and practical aspects of the Freedom of Information Act and its impact on the delivery of health and social care. Entry Requirements? This course is not available to visting students. ? Pre-requisites : None other than programme entry requirements ? Co-requisites : This is a compulsory course for all candidates on the Cert/Dip/MSc in Health Information Governance programme. ?
Special Arrangements for Entry : The course will be delivered using RCSEd’s VLE with appropriate links to the University’s systems. Students will be expected to use a range of flexible learning methods including participation in discussion forums and wikis and accessing resources in a range of formats e.g. Subject AreasHome subject areaDelivery Information? Additional Class Information : The student will be expected to spend approximately 10 hours per week reading the course materials and additional/supplementary online and published resources; participating in online discussions and submitting required assignments. Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
a. Demonstrate an understanding of the Freedom of Information Act and associated legislation and any statutory instruments
b. Examine the impact of Freedom of Information in health and social care settings, in particular the impact on patient rights c. Examine the impact of Freedom of Information on the operation of health and social care organisations d. Discuss the relationship between Freedom of Information and confidentiality e. Critically analyse the relationship between Freedom of Information and knowledge/information management f. Give evidence-based advice to individuals or organisations regarding Freedom of Information in a variety of clinical and management contexts g. Explain the procedures involved in auditing the information needs and flow within organisations h. Explain the procedures involved in developing and managing a corporate records/information strategy i. Undertake a risk assessment for Freedom of Information j. Develop and undertake an information audit Assessment Information
Course assessments will relate to the learning outcomes. The summative work will be approximately 3000 words in total and be approved by the Programme Committee, on the
recommendation of the Course Convenor.
