Acronym : PPL-P-PhilQuant This course will offer detailed seminars on key philosophical issues in the nature and implications of quantum mechanics. No background in logic or the physical sciences will be assumed, although having taken Logic 1 and/or Philosophy of Science 1 might be an advantage, and the course is intended to be accessible to students with a wide range of philosophical interests and aptitudes. Students who take this course should be equipped to explore, discuss and analyse philosophical issues in the philosophy of quantum mechanics, and thereby acquire confidence in dealing with these issues. In particular, they should be enabled to explore critically topics that include the following:
* How classical dynamics and quantum dynamics differ * The measurement problem and wave-packet collapse * The Copenhagen Interpretation and its competitors * The Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen 'Paradox' and Bell's Theorem * 'Many Worlds' and 'Many Minds' theories of measurement Assessment Information
