Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

After completing this course course members should be able to:

1. describe the design of a language learning course using online learning
2. select an appropriate course structure, demonstrated by an understanding of student needs, context and culture
3. select and use appropriate electronic resources for inclusion in the design of course materials from a range of options
4. select appropriate programmes and procedures for course assessment and evaluation
5. identify appropriate ways to support the learner and encourage learner autonomy
6. critically evaluate current research in online language learning
7. design and evaluate a suitable short course using online learning

Assessment Information

Course participants will demonstrate their ability to design and evaluate a short course using the tools and techniques encountered in the course. Each participant will undertake an assignment equivalent to 4,000 words to include:


A short course using an OLE or Internet site, designed by the course participant and including materials, resources, communication elements, assessment and evaluation.


A rationale which critically evaluates the short course, including analysis of the materials, resources, communication elements, assessment, evaluation and learner autonomy and support, and which reflects on the processes involved.
