Evaluation in Context (P02548)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 11 ? Acronym : EDU-P-P02548 Many of the general techniques used in evaluation come from the applied social sciences and can be learnt by students in the normal course of education in those fields. However, there is a logic of evaluation that has been developed for and applies only to evaluation, and there are field specific methodologies that must be mastered in order to deal with evaluation in different fields. This course focuses on the general logic and specific evaluation approaches applicable to specific professional fields. Entry Requirements? Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
On completion of the course students will be able to:
LO1 Distinguish evaluation from other types of research and investigation. LO2 Describe and compare the different approaches to and models of evaluation. LO3 Identify, and explain why, certain approaches to evaluation have particular applicability within their professional field/s. LO4 Design and plan an evaluation, explaining the processes involved and choices made as to design and methods, etc. LO5 Employ good evaluation management techniques that display an awareness of current trends in evaluation within specific fields. Summative assessment: Each student will be asked to develop a complete evaluation plan for an educational object of their choice. Students will present their written plan in a 4,000 word paper. Inter alia, the paper will present an analysis of the context/setting for the evaluation, a clear statement of focus and a rationale for the choice of approach, design etc, all appropriately referenced to a review of an appropriate selection of the relevant literature.
Formative assessment: Students will be provided with opportunities to present their draft plans in class and receive constructive comments from their classmates and tutors.
