The course covers the basic grammar and syntax of MSA and
includes a wide range of written and spoken exercises, with a view to developing a sound basis for further study. The student should develop familiarity with differences between formal and spoken Arabic. A basic knowledge of some aspects of Arabic culture. The student should be able to read texts on familiar subjects; have confidence in ability to guess meanings of new words from context; be able to speak about oneself and one?s enivironment, carry out transactions and initiate and sustain conversations on selected topics; be able to paraphrase; be able to understand native speakers accustomed to dealing with students; be able to carry out written transactions associated with daily life; be able to form and understand basic Arabic sentence stuctures; be familiar with some differences between formal and spoken Arabic; have learned some aspects of Arabic culture.
